Supporting Galways Down Syndrome Community

McD’s are proud to once again be working alongside the incredible Voices for Down Syndrome Galway on their Little Socks Campaign.

LITTLE SOCKS 2022:

This year the theme of the poster campaign is inclusion....EVERYTHING'S BETTER TOGETHER, featuring friends Leah and Ashlyn. The goal is to raise awareness of Down Syndrome in the community and promote inclusivity as well as raising funds for the Charity through donations to Lots of Socks Galway.

What is Down Syndrome and why Socks? Down syndrome occurs when there is one extra copy of chromosome 21 in every cell in the body. Sometimes people say Chromosomes look a little bit like pairs of socks.

Voices for Down Syndrome Galway. Voices for Down Syndrome Galway is the speech and language Therapy side of the Galway Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Their mission is to provide Speech and Language Therapy for members of the Down Syndrome Community in Galway.

FUNDING:

Voices for Down Syndrome Galway require approximately €150,000 per year to run this service. They receive no government, institutional, or Down Syndrome Ireland Organisation funding.

Prior to the establishment of the voices for Down Syndrome Galway, there was a 3 YEAR WAITING LIST for the initial assessment for Children while the service for adults was NON-EXISTENT.

With the generosity of supporters, members of the community, fundraising events, corporate donations and along with the Little Socks Campaign, Voices for Down Syndrome Galway are in a position to provide the essential speech and language therapy needed.
